On Tuesday, the BEL 20 index in Belgium ended the trading day down 0.37%, as notable losses in the Utilities, Industrials, and Consumer Services sectors influenced the market’s performance.
The index closed at 3,720.89 points, with major stocks facing a mixed trading session.
Top Performers
Leading the gainers was Umicore SA (EBR), which increased by 1.87%, adding 0.20 points to reach €10.90. Argen-X (EBR) saw a rise of 1.64%, climbing 8.40 points to finish the day at €520.60, achieving an all-time high. Melexis NV (EBR) also enjoyed a small increase, ending up 0.50% at €70.20.
Worst Performers
On the flip side, Elia (EBR) was the largest decliner, dropping 3.67% or 3.50 points to close at €91.90.
Cofinimmo SA (EBR) faced challenges as well, falling 1.84% to end at €61.35, while UCB SA (EBR) decreased by 1.70%, concluding at €171.00.
Overall, there were more decliners than advancers on the Brussels Stock Exchange, with a ratio of 71 to 32, while 11 stocks remained steady.
Commodities and Currency Movements
Gold futures for December delivery rose by 0.54%, reaching $2,753.60 per troy ounce. The oil market saw a notable uptick, with Crude Oil for December delivery surging 2.93% to $72.09 per barrel. Additionally, Brent Oil for December delivery increased by 2.72%, trading at $76.31 per barrel.
In the currency markets, the EUR/USD exchange rate remained mostly stable, with a slight adjustment of 0.10% to 1.08. Similarly, EUR/GBP also saw little change, holding steady at 0.04% to finish at 0.83. The US Dollar Index Futures climbed 0.06%, reaching 103.90.
